FUN, FRIENDLY, EXPERT TUITION.
Music is my passion in life and I get such a thrill by nurturing and fostering a love for music in my students. I have been teaching classical guitar for 20 years. In this time, I have taught one-on-one lessons, group classes, directed guitar ensembles, run workshops in schools, colleges, universities, and performed in music education concerts. Furthermore, I have taught young children to read music before they could read words, taken students successfully through AMEB graded exams (from preliminary through to Diploma levels), guided students into tertiary music degrees at universities, and helped children and adults alike realise their creative potential. I am also an accredited AMEB classical guitar examiner and am well-equipped to guide students through their exam preparation as I understand the entire process from the inside out. I have successfully guided students through exams from preliminary to AMusA (Associate Diploma of Music) level.
I offer lessons on zoom/skype for those living in other parts of the country/world.
Lessons are AU$40/half hour and AU$80/hour.
What you get is expert instruction from a seasoned professional.
WWCC Card holder.
My students will learn to:
play beautifully, rhythmically, and energetically.
play engaging music with a refined technique.
read music notation and develop a full understanding of music theory.
play chords, strumming patterns, and percussive effects.
play solo music themselves, and play duet repertoire with me.
develop confidence in their musical expression and in themselves.
I also run group guitar lessons and guitar ensemble classes. Additionally, I accept opportunities to visit schools to conduct masterclasses, to run performance and rehearsal workshops, to give presentations on my research, and to adjudicate music festivals/eisteddfodau.
GROUP GUITAR LESSONS – group guitar lessons (usually in groups of 2-4) are ideal for those who prefer learning in a group dynamic. The emphasis is taken off the self and placed on learning to play music with others, while also covering the basics of musicianship, theory, and technique. Group lessons work particularly well for students from the same family (ie. two siblings, a parent and child) or students of a similar age and starting point/ability.
GUITAR ENSEMBLES – guitar ensembles are ideal for those who wish to develop their musicianship and ensemble skills. The social aspect of music-making is a feature of guitar ensembles. My ensemble musicians learn challenging and exciting repertoire, with a focus on communication and expressing music with style and enthusiasm.
