My name is Andrew and I’m a professional saxophonist and music teacher. I have extensive experience as a performer and teacher, and I have a busy performing career in and around London in addition to my teaching work. I've taught in a wide variety of settings ranging from absolute beginner level up to advanced students, and my experience teaching to different ages and in different contexts (individuals, small groups, whole classes) has given me a wide variety of teaching approaches to draw on in my lessons.
I enjoy helping students to meet their individual musical goals, whatever these may be! My teaching approach is designed to guide you from the very first stages of learning an instrument through to an advanced level, while being flexible to the needs and desires of each student. I believe in taking a flexible, tailored approach according to the needs, desires and musical tastes of each student.
In terms of formal education, I’m trained up to masters level in music (at Middlesex University and Trinity Laban Conservatoire), and I also have a DipABRSM diploma in Principles of Instrumental/Vocal Teaching.
While most of my performing experience has been in jazz (I have a BA in jazz performance from Middlesex University), I’m comfortable playing and teaching many styles of music, including pop and classical.
My standard fee is $45 for an hour lesson, but I can also offer a half hour lesson for $30 if desired. I'm also happy to offer the first lesson as a free trial lesson.
I feel that online teaching can be a great way of learning a new instrument and actually has a lot of advantages. I will provide all necessary sheet music and materials, exercises, etc. as PDFs. I enjoy teaching at all levels and absolute beginners are welcome!
