University English - English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

In my spare time I'm a keen tennis player and compete in local matches in the Sheffield District Leagues. I also practise Iyengar Yoga and Pilates with an active fitness routine. Each year I continue my overseas trips where I enjoy Scuba Diving and photography in tropical and culturally-rich destinations. I also love music - attending gigs, concerts and listening to most styles of music, and finally large dogs! I own a Rhodesian Ridgeback, called Willow - who is almost 6 months old.

Hello and thank you for reading my message!

My name is Sally. I live in Sheffield,  - a native speaker and teacher  in the UK.  I currently work at a very established UK university as a teacher of EAP/ESP.

I have over 10 years experience helping and communicating with non-native speakers and three years experience in teaching English for Academic Purposes.

In your free lesson we can discuss your specific needs and goals. I will ask you some general questions and ask you to write a short email - together these will help me get an impression of your current English level.  We can plan and discuss what you would like to do and agree a plan. I like to be very flexible with my students.

My specialism includes helping students prepare for University study, here in England.

Every country has a different culture, including an academic culture. Universities are all different and have their unique expectations about academic work, life and research.

My EAP lessons will help you prepare for university life.  Each lesson focuses on a different skill or strategy.  My course includes topics such a:

  • Academic writing: Academic style and UK writing conventions
  • Academic Reading: Understanding academic texts, strategies for reading effectively and finding material
  • Academic Listening: Understanding extended texts (lectures) and taking notes effectively
  • Speaking skills:  Giving Academic Presentations and discussion in Academic seminars
  • University life:   Plagiarism and the rules of study
  • Research methods: Using libraries, keeping records and referencing

And many more!

University study in the UK can be one of the most rewarding and enriching experiences for foreign students, and very enjoyable and memorable too!

Students will benefit from their study and experience a lot more if they are prepared and familiar with UK academic culture and study practices -  before they get here.

My EAP lessons will help you achieve this and make you feel confident and prepared for your future studies!

I am a friendly, patient and enthusiastic tutor who has experience in teaching nationalities from all over the globe, young and old, new and familiar with English.

Let me help you enjoy your English studies here in the UK!
