*Teaching specialization in drum set with an emphasis on timing, genre exploration, and cooperative-instructional playing (playing together, with a metronome, OR with backing tracks/music).
Note: In addition to primary lessons, "how-to" sessions are available over Skype for various percussion instruments when applicable (including djembe - an African hand drum), and other mini "how-to" sessions are available for learning piano and basic xylophone (when applicable), in addition to simple bass guitar composition.
About My Teaching:
I love to jam. With that being said, I love conducting lessons in which songs are being learned. It's great fun and good practice to play along with songs, because timing is accurate (for the most part, depending on the song), and because it gives the player the experience of jamming with other instruments --- as close as you can get to jamming in a group without actually being in a group.
Over Skype, I sit down at my kit with my computer and talk you through correct technique, various exercises and warm-up methods and we explore the amazing world of music, all while accomplishing your personalized schedule of weekly, monthly, and even yearly goals.
Beginner lessons are available for drum set & snare drum in addition to piano & mallets/xylophone when applicable.
*Familiar with teaching the middle school level percussion curriculum with the Hal Leonard "Essential Elements" series books.
Intermediate lessons are available for drum set and snare drum only.
