Interested in learning the Cajon, also known as the Box Drum? Learn from Kamal Bènsra, the first person to have given the very first Cajon Workshop in Singapore, at Yamaha Music School (YMS). Having been invited by YMS, Bènsra delivered an engaging workshop featuring
- hand and rarely used finger techniques,
- original finger finger techniques and hand placements,
- different and varying grooves (including Latin, pop, and South American styles)
Various hand techniques, grooves, rudiments, playing styles and approaches will be taught. Right from western Drum/Percussion rudiments (single, double, paradiddle, flam, etc) to deep-rooted Tabla hand techniques (tirakita, kitataka, thitethite, etc), and Bènsra's own originally developed hand
techniques, you will learn ALL these techniques and more:
- the concept of Solo-ing
- SOOT (Kamal's originally developed idea will be exclusively taught to you once you grasp the fundamentals)
- Rhythmic patterns and overlays (triplets, quadruplets, sixtuplets, cross-rhythms, polyrhythms, etc)
Learn how to play the Cajon from Kamal Bènsra. Classically trained and having performed the Cajon all over the world including California, Italy (Turin), India, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and having performed with big names such as Emmy Award Nominee Snatam Kaur, Jungledelics, fusion wizards Soul Ethnicity, local vocal maestro Lily Anna Nuris, Dhol Masters Amarjit Sonik and Kevin Baldwin, Tabla exponent Amaan Ali.
