YES. Anyone can be a Teacher as we all have something to teach. The term teach means to impart knowledge. This could be anything from a formal academic lesson to basic tips, valuations, plant/insect/fossil identifications or almost anything you can imagine. If you have knowledge that others do not then you can teach.
Your skills may be in the Arts, Music, Languages, Animal Care, Repairing Clothes or Cars. Whatever your particular skill or area of expertise why not create a lesson to give a student the opportunity to learn from you.
You have nothing to lose and you may find yourself in great demand.
Have fun, list a lesson and teach with LearnByCam Today!
Simply click the 'Register New Account' Link at the top of the page and fill out the simple form.
It is completely free to join and lessons can also be listed for free.
You need not worry about giving personal information to us, because we will never ask you for it. The only mandatory personal information we require from you is your email address. We do not need bank details, addresses, telephone numbers or anything like that as all of our transactions are made through well established third party companies such as PayPal which only require the use of an email address.
You can see a demonstration video of this on the
Introductory Videos Page. The video is called 'Live Introduction Tutorial'.
Yes, it is very important for several reasons. Within our learning community we suggest teachers should add a profile image as it makes their profiles more personalised.
It is additionally important for teachers to upload images to their profiles, as this will be automatically and exclusively displayed on our home page for all new visitors to immediately see, giving you and your lessons an even greater exposure. To upload an image, sign into your account, select "My Settings", from the "My Profile" page and follow the simple instructions.
To list your lessons, sign into your account then click on the 'List New Lesson' link at the top of the page.
The first time you click this, you will be walked through several steps that need to be completed to become a teacher on LearnByCam. We call this the 'New Teacher Checklist'. Once those steps are complete, you simply click the 'New Lesson' link each time you want to list a new lesson. There is no charge for any of this.
Lessons are free to list and will remain on the site indefinately (subject to the 'Dormant Cleanup Policy in our terms & conditions). You can edit your lessons as often as you like, but you cannot change the lesson title after the lesson has been booked by a student.
You can see a demonstration video of this on the
Introductory Videos Page. The video is called 'Lesson Listing Tutorial'.
At LearnByCam the teachers decide the prices for each of their lessons.
You can charge anything between 10 and 100 US dollars per half or full hour. You can select this when listing a lesson on our site. If you are not in the United States, the lessons are still listed in US dollars, but may also be shown in your local currency. This local figure is approximate and you may want to check on a regular basis and adjust your lesson fees according to currency fluctuations. Paypal handles incoming payments in other currencies so don't worry about being paid out in US dollars as these will be converted to your local currency by Paypal.
Setting your lesson price too high may deter some students. Remember, you may be able to offer online students cheaper prices than you would have traditional face to face students as there are no travel costs involved.
When listing lessons we recommend that you give special consideration to the title and avoid creating duplicate content. Also consider the terms you use when creating your titles. Think of keywords (ie terms that you or other people would search for in search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo etc when looking for something). Also ensure that your lesson title actually reflects the type of lesson you are teaching.
Please note, we may amend or remove duplicate lessons and titles if found. If you require further information regarding this please contact the team.
A lesson can be set to 30 minutes or 1 hour.
You do not have to make your lessons exactly these lengths. This is just a guide for scheduling purposes, to block out the time in your calendar. If, for example, you are an antiques expert and wish to give a valuation and information about a particular item someone has. This may only take 5 minutes.
If you know your lesson has a specific length other than 30 or 60 minutes you should specify this in the lesson description.
Your lesson listings on LearnByCam are your adverts for your live webcam lessons.
You do not need to enter actual lesson content here, just information about yourself and the lesson you will teach. This can be as formal or informal as you like. If appropriate you can embed youtube videos showing off your skills or images of yourself.
We use the term 'lesson' loosely here at LearnByCam, it can actually mean anything from a formal syllabus based lesson, to an informal Q&A lesson, or even a service such as translation. If you want to cover all those scenarios just say so in your lesson description.
Your lesson description is your chance to shine and stand out from those around you. Let the students know why they should choose to have lessons with you! Description quality is a factor we use to decide the default browse and search order, so embedding YouTube videos and writing quality description text is a good idea.
Some lessons may require training materials to be shared, or may even require the students to aquire books prior to the lesson. If this is the case just mention this in your lesson description, and be sure to mention it again when the student contacts you.
If you have lesson material in electronic format this could be either sent via the Instant messaging tool or emailed prior to the lesson. If possible a standard format such as PDF should be used as not all students may have the same word processor or other software as you.
Absolutely. If you can speak other languages fluently and wish to promote your lessons in multiple languages, simply list the lesson once in each language. This will help the students who speak that language to locate and understand your lessons.
There may be times when you cannot teach a particular lesson for a period of time. You may be tempted to make this lesson inactive so that the lesson temporarily disappears from LearnByCam.
We would recommend that you do not make the lesson inactive unless you plan on never teaching that lesson again. The reason being is that it takes a long time for your lessons to get a good listing position in the search engines and making a lesson inactive will eventually remove the lesson from the search engines. Requiring the whole process to start again when you make the lesson active again.
Instead we would advise that you set your availablity to unavailable on all days if your unavailability applies to all your lessons. Or if this only applies to one lesson, edit the description of that lesson to add a note that you will not be teaching this lesson until a certain date.
Yes. When you edit or create a new lesson you are now able to select whether you wish to offer that lesson for free for the first lesson by each unique student.
We believe offering the first lesson free to be an excellent option. Remember this is a new concept and many people will be wary of using the Internet and webcams to learn. There is no better way to put their mind at rest.
Here are some guidelines on how this should work -
Always ask the student to create an account and send you a message through the internal LearnByCam messaging system, this way you will be able to be sure which LearnByCam account is contacting you.
Keep a record of each student you give a free lesson to. Note their IM name and their LearnByCam name.
YES. While you are an active user of LearnByCam we will keep your lessons listed indefinitely. We do not charge annual listing fees, cost per click or any other advertising fees for your listed lessons.
We encourage you to advertise yourself outside of the LearnByCam website. We suggest posting on various Free-Ad sites and within any Social Networking Sites you use.
Links to your LearnByCam profile from social networking sites can be a particularly powerful way to bring students to the site as these may be friends of your friends and therefore a trust link is already established. You can even earn money for the students you bring to LearnByCam through our affiliate program, so there really is nothing to lose and everything to gain from this.
Please see our affiliate FAQ, and other video and PDF guides regarding this in the help section of our site.
When you list your lessons a student will find you. When describing your lesson, please include as much information as possible, about the skill you will be teaching.
We encourage our teachers to advertise their skills wherever they think suitable. We provide an affiliate program with links and banners that you can use to promote your LearnByCam profile.
We provide you with free tools to showcase your skills. For example; if you teach guitar, you may wish to embed into the lesson description on your LearnByCam lesson a YouTube video of yourself showing off your skills. This way, a student is able to gain more information about you and your lesson.
Yes! LearnByCam is a worldwide community connecting people via the internet. Teachers and students can meet online regardless of their location.
You can make money by teaching through LearnByCam as often as possible.
As a teacher you set the price for the lessons you list. Prices will vary depending on factors such as your experience, skill, lesson length etc.
You will be paid monthly for the lessons you have taught.
You can also earn by directing students to LearnByCam simply by pasting links into any online ads, social networks or other sites you may use. Please see the affiliate program for details.
No. LearnByCam are not employers, nor do we have any form of employment contract with you. Please refer to the Terms & Conditions for more details.
We spent many hours designing our Categories and Sub-Categories to try and cover as many different subjects as possible. Of course, we realise that you may teach a lesson which doesn't appear to "fit". We would first suggest the "Other" sub-category. However, if you are still unsure, we can make suggestions.
We are also interested in your feedback and any suggestions you may have regarding implementation of future Categories or sub-categories. We can learn from you too! We believe it may be necessary in the future to add a third layer of categories as more lessons are listed in each category. This is your community, let us know what you think.
Once a student has requested a lesson, you can accept or decline the booking. Once the booking and lesson fees are paid, the booking is confirmed and your schedule will then reflect that.
The booking process should work like this -
- Student contacts you to confirm details of lesson etc. If you are happy then you agree to teach the student.
- Once the booking is made you should confirm this by clicking the confirm button in the 'My Schedule' area of the site. You need to do this even if it is an 'Instant Lesson'.
- On the day of the lesson connect to the Virtual Classroom from selecting the "Connect" link from within "My Schedule". Once connected with the student you then teach your lesson.
- After 7 days you can both leave feedback. You can also transfer money to your payout balance after 7 days.
- Money in your payout balance will be paid on the 1st day of the month.
We suggest waiting for at least 10 minutes. After which we recommend you contact them via the internal messaging system, in order to arrange the lesson for another time.
When rearranging a lesson you can either cancel the current booking which triggers an automatic refund. Then book a new slot in the LearnByCam schedule.
Or simply rearrange a mutually agreeable time. This should be arranged between student and teacher independently, not through the learnbycam booking/schedule process, as that would incur additional fees.
On most occasions re-arranging a mutually convenient time will be possible. However, there may be times when rebooking is simply not possible.
If you have made every effort to rebook your lesson but have failed for whatever reason. We then recommend that you cancel the lesson by clicking the red cross icon in the 'My Schedule' page next to the lesson booking in question. This then triggers an automatic full refund. This must be done within 7 days of the lesson date, otherwise after that date the lesson is considered complete.
Be aware its in your best interests to make every effort to communicate with the student as they do have the opportunity to leave you negative feedback unless the booking is completed succesfully or refunded in full.
When you go on holiday your schedule will remain in the original time that you had lessons booked for. For example, if you live in the USA and went to UK on holiday, all bookings would be kept in your USA time. Please bear this in mind when you go abroad and if you need to reschedule a lesson, please contact the teacher or student accordingly.
If you emigrate or permanently move to another part of the Country, all existing confirmed bookings, would remain in the original time that you had booked. If you permanently have relocated to another country or area with a different Time Zone or Day-Light-Settings, we recommend you change your settings, please refer to the "User Guide" with steps on how to do this.
Remember, that any existing lessons, however, would remain in the original time that they were booked. Therefore, if these times are now inconvenient for you, due to your new TimeZone, we recommend contacting the teacher or student in order to reschedule the lesson.
In the event where you were unhappy with the Student, you can leave public-feedback accordingly.
You are under no obligation to accept future bookings from this student.
If you believe the student has behaved in a way, which violates our Terms & Conditions, please email with the details - admin@learnbycam.com We will take actions where necessary.
